Choose the effect first, then the strip

For most temporary Ramadan installations, a low-voltage warm-white strip in a profile is a useful starting point for coves and counters. Neon flex suits visible crescents, arches and calligraphic outlines. Protected strip can be considered for exposed canopies or landscape features when every cut, connector and cable entry is included in the installation detail.

The best configuration depends on viewing distance, installation duration, access, required animation and exposure. A product that works inside a hotel lobby may be unsuitable on a sun-exposed UAE facade or a dusty Saudi courtyard.

Temporary status does not remove electrical, fire, structural or local approval responsibilities. Saudi Arabia’s Royal Commission for AlUla outdoor-lighting instructions, for example, treat Ramadan and Eid lighting as temporary and show removal after the holiday period. That document applies within its own authority and is a useful reminder to confirm the rules for the actual municipality, property and project.

Five decisions prevent most specification mistakes

Record whether the light source is hidden or visible, the smallest curve and cut unit, indoor or outdoor exposure, the length and location of every feed, and the removal and storage method. Add the required CCT, color quality and control scenes.

Warm white often supports hospitality settings, while RGB or addressable effects may suit events and retail features. The artistic brief should state whether all sections change together or whether effects must move along the line. A moving effect requires a compatible controller, data protocol and power-injection plan.

1. Hotel lobby cove: DC24V warm-white COB in a profile

Use this where guests should see reflected light rather than the source. A DC12/24V 8mm CRI95 COB model is a starting sample for finish-sensitive interiors. Test the selected DC24V version with the real profile, diffuser and dimmer. Keep drivers accessible after temporary decorative panels are fitted.

2. Crescent or arch outline: low-voltage neon flex

Neon flex produces a visible line and handles curves defined by its bend direction and minimum radius. Confirm profile size, cut interval, cable exit and mounting clips from a drawing. The 6x12mm DC12V neon kit is an indoor starting point; its environmental construction must be confirmed before any exposed use.

3. Mall kiosk and retail counter: narrow COB for joinery

For shallow recesses, the 3mm CRI90 COB model can be compared with wider tape. The complete channel will be wider than the PCB, so obtain the joinery section before ordering. Make the driver and connectors reachable without dismantling the counter.

4. Canopy or entrance line: protected DC24V strip with removable clips

The DC24V IP68 SMD model is one catalog example for evaluation. Its listed protection belongs to the model construction, not the field-cut installation. Use an approved cable-entry and end-seal method, provide drainage, and choose clips or channel that can be removed without damaging the building finish.

5. Event backdrop: RGB strip with simple synchronized control

Standard RGB is easier to commission when the whole backdrop changes together. Fix the controller voltage, common polarity, channel order and maximum current before fabrication. If the brief only calls for a few static colors, an addressable system adds programming and data wiring that the event team may not need.

6. Animated facade feature: addressable strip in short serviceable sections

Use addressable strip only when moving effects are part of the approved design. Break the feature into accessible sections, define data direction and pixel grouping, and test recovery after a power interruption. Provide local power injection based on measured voltage drop rather than treating one reel as one powered run.

Approve the installation and removal together

Build a production-intent mock-up using the final surface, clips or channel, strip, connection, driver and controller. View it from the normal guest or street distance, then inspect glare, color, cable visibility and heat after warm-up. For outdoor work, include a completed cut end and cable entry. For animation, run the longest branch and every approved scene.
