COB 10mm 60LED RA70 LED Strip
This COB LED strip combines 60 LEDs per meter with 12W/m power output and RA70 color rendering. The 10mm PCB width fits standard commercial aluminum profiles for straightforward installation. Individually addressable pixels for dynamic effects.
This addressable RGB strip is ideal for:
- Building facades, architectural exterior highlights, and outdoor commercial spaces
- Aluminum profile installations, ceiling details, and architectural feature lighting
- Commercial cove lighting, office ambient lighting, and general business environments
- Retail store displays, showroom lighting, and product highlighting applications
Addressable RGB vs Standard RGB Explained
Standard RGB LED strips change the entire length to one color at a time. If you set the color to red, the whole strip turns red. If you set it to blue, the whole strip turns blue. You cannot have different colors on different sections simultaneously.
Addressable RGB strips (like this product) are fundamentally different. Each LED has its own integrated control chip, allowing it to display a different color than neighboring LEDs. This enables:
| Effect | Standard RGB | Addressable RGB (this) |
|---|---|---|
| Solid color | ✅ | ✅ |
| Color fade | ✅ | ✅ |
| Strobe | ✅ | ✅ |
| Rainbow gradient along length | ❌ | ✅ |
| Chase/running effects | ❌ | ✅ |
| Multiple colors simultaneously | ❌ | ✅ |
| Pixel-level animations | ❌ | ✅ |
| Music-reactive patterns | Limited | ✅ |
| Text and image scrolling | ❌ | ✅ |
| Game/video synchronization | ❌ | ✅ |
The addressable version is significantly more versatile but requires a compatible controller that outputs the SPI data protocol.
SPI16703 IC — Industry Standard Protocol
This strip uses the SPI16703 control chip, which is compatible with a wide range of controllers and software. Key characteristics:
- 4-line control — VCC, GND, Data, and Clock lines
- Breakpoint-resume — if one LED fails, downstream LEDs continue working
- Synchronized clock — more reliable than 3-line protocols in noisy environments
- Compatible with most commercial pixel LED controllers
- Supported by popular software: Madrix, Jinx, LedEdit, WLED (with compatible hardware)
Other common addressable LED protocols (available as OEM custom options):
| IC | Lines | Speed | Use Case |
|---|---|---|---|
| SPI16703 (this) | 4 | 800Kbps | Reliable commercial signage |
| WS2811 | 3 | 400Kbps | Low-cost DIY projects |
| WS2812B | 3 | 800Kbps | Arduino hobby projects |
| SK6812 | 3 | 800Kbps | RGBW with white channel |
| APA102 / SK9822 | 4 | 1+Mbps | Video wall and high-speed |
For most commercial signage and architectural applications, the SPI16703 offers the best balance of reliability, speed, and compatibility.

- DMX512 decoders for theatrical lighting systems
- Custom controllers via OEM service
Power and Current Calculations
Important: Addressable RGB strips draw power based on the color being displayed. Pure white (R+G+B all on) uses the most power; dim single colors use less.
Maximum power calculation:
- Power rating: 12W/m at full white
- 5-meter run at full white: 60W
- 5-meter run at typical use (30% duty cycle): 18W
Driver sizing:
- Always size drivers for full white worst case for safety
- Use drivers rated at 1.2× the maximum load
- For 5-meter runs: use a 72W DC12V driver
- For longer runs: split into zones with separate power feeding
Voltage drop considerations:
- DC12V runs longer than 3 meters need dual-end power feed
- DC12V runs longer than 5 meters need intermediate power injection every 5m
- For installations longer than 10 meters, use DC24V addressable IC options
Installation and Wiring
Connection order:
- Connect GND (ground/negative) first — prevents damage from static discharge
- Connect VCC (+12V DC positive)
- Connect Data line to controller’s data output
- Connect Clock line to controller’s clock output
- Power on the controller FIRST, then power the strip
Important wiring rules:
- Direction matters — addressable strips have a data flow direction (marked with arrows)
- Connect to the IN end — not the OUT end
- Short data cables — keep data/clock cables under 3 meters when possible
- Signal boosters — for runs longer than 5 meters, use SPI signal amplifiers
- Ground connection — always connect strip ground to controller ground
Static discharge protection:
- Use anti-static wrist straps when handling addressable LED strips
- Do not touch the exposed copper pads
- Keep away from fluorescent ballasts and high-voltage sources during installation
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Issue: LEDs light up but wrong colors
- Check data line connection and direction
- Verify controller protocol matches strip IC (SPI16703)
- Check that GND is properly connected
Issue: Only first LED works, rest are off
- Broken data line after the first LED
- Or incorrect controller configuration
Issue: Flickering or random colors
- Voltage drop — add power injection
- Data signal interference — shorten data cable
- Insufficient power supply capacity
Issue: One LED is stuck on or off
- Individual LED failure (rare)
- Break-point resume will keep downstream LEDs working
- Replace failed LED or cut section
Installation Best Practices
- Static protection — handle with care, avoid static discharge
- Aluminum profile recommended for commercial installations
- Power injection every 5 meters for DC12V installations
- Short data cables — keep under 3m for reliable signal
- Correct direction — data flows from IN to OUT, never reverse
- Dedicated controller — one controller per strip or use parallel controllers
